Thirteen (13) parents from Tuschen, West Coast Demerara have benefited from parenting skills training from Child Rights Alliance (CRA) partner The Orchid Foundation. The Regional Gender Affairs Committee for Region Three contributed to the success of this event.
The parents participated in eight one and half hour sessions which were designed to equip parents with knowledge and skills to help them improve their relationship with their children thus reducing incidents of abuse and violence in the home.
One parent mentioned that the knowledge she gained from the programme has transformed her and she no longer beats her children. A second parent revealed she is from a different community (De Kindren, West Coast Demerara). She promised to share the knowledge she gained with residents of DeKindren. The parent also revealed that she can now “deal with her children differently” thanks to what she has learned.
The aim of the CRA is to protect children from violence and abuse through improved collaboration with community based organizations like Orchid Foundation.
