The Rights of the Child Commission (RCC) hosted a capacity building workshops with members of the Child Rights Alliance (CRA). The workshop focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and protection rights afforded to children.
The participants were sensitized on ACEs and its lifetime effects on one overall health. When a child experiences psychological trauma such as abuse or neglect, it can adversely affect the physical health of the child in later stages in life. Additionally, trauma from abuse can also adversely affect portions of the brain which carry out vital functions such as decision making. This further highlights the importance of early interventions through counselling or trauma focused therapy.
The participants also discussed several social issues and recommendations were put forward on steps the Child Rights Alliance can take to address the issues.
Each participant was energized to continue working towards protecting children and expressed the desire for more capacity building sessions.
