Child Rights Alliance (CRA) member ChildLinK and the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) were live on 88.5 Rock FM on October 17, 2017, promoting the Child Neglect in Guyana report in an effort to raise awareness on child neglect and other forms of child abuse.
Child Neglect is the failure of a parent or caregiver to provide a child with basic necessities such food, clothing, shelter, love, medical attention, and ensuring that the child attends school punctually and regularly provided that the parent/caregiver has the wherewithal to do so. Child neglect is the most prevalent form of child abuse in Guyana. According to the report, between 2013 and 2016, 50 percent of the reported cases of child abuse involved an aspect of child neglect.
Members of the panel (Stacy Parris, Child Rights Alliance Child Care Counselor; Roseita DeCastro, Senior Child Care and Protection Officer; Hasani Tinnie, Communications Officer, ChildLinK) urged listeners to report any known cases of child abuse.
