ChildLinK held its third annual candle light vigil captioned An Evening of Reflection and Candlelight Vigil on September 29, 2017 at the Guyana Police Force Annex. The event focused on children who survived child sexual abuse. Additionally, children who passed on were remembered. The activity was organized to bring awareness to child abuse in Guyana.
The event received support from the Guyana Police Force, Merundoi, several civil society organizations, several government agencies and members of the public.
Mr. Paul Williams Crime Chief (a.g.) Guyana Police Force, called on Guyanese to work together to protect children from abuse. Mr. Williams reiterated the Police Force’s willingness to partner with the public to fight the scourge of child abuse. He assured the audience that the Force is working towards ensuring that reported cases are dealt with in a more efficient and child friendly manner.
ChildLinK officials urged the audience to report known cases of abuse. Although there has been a steady increase of cases of abuse, the majority of cases continued to go unreported.
